What are chemical peels?

Chemical peels are facial treatments that contain special chemicals to resurface and renew your skin. They’re noninvasive, and the chemicals safely trigger your skin to exfoliate and regenerate.

When you get a chemical peel, your aesthetician applies a thin chemical solution to your skin that encourages it to exfoliate. The top layer peels off, and the skin that’s revealed beneath is more even-toned, smoother, and refreshed.

Chemical peels revitalize dull, lifeless skin. They’re a popular facial treatment, but they can also be used on the décolletage and the backs of hands.

Which chemical peel is right for me?

Peels are highly customizable, and the Celebrity Medi Spa team recommends different levels of exfoliation for each client. Depending on your skin concerns, the right peel for you could be any one of the following:

Light chemical peel

Light chemical peels are gentle but effective. They use a mild acid, like alpha-hydroxy acid, to refresh and exfoliate the top layer of skin. Sometimes called lunchtime peels, light peels can improve mild skin discoloration and uneven texture.

Medium chemical peel

Medium chemical peels work on the top and middle layers of your skin. These peels may use glycolic or trichloroacetic acid to tackle more significant cosmetic imperfections, like fine lines, wrinkles, and sun spots. 

Deep chemical peel

Deep chemical peels deliver the most dramatic results of all chemical peels. By using stronger solutions like trichloroacetic acid or phenol, deep chemical peels can minimize moderate lines and wrinkles, some types of scarring, and sun spots.

What can I expect when I get a chemical peel?

Your chemical peel is customized to meet your skin’s needs. The Celebrity Medi Spa team begins with a consultation, where your aesthetician examines your skin and reviews your cosmetic goals.

No matter which peel you choose, your aesthetician cleanses and prepares your skin for the chemical solution. They may use a topical anesthetic for medium or deep peels, but light peels are usually not uncomfortable.

Your aesthetician applies the chemical peel and leaves it for a specific amount of time. When the time is up, they neutralize the acid and cleanse your skin.

The aesthetician gives you instructions to care for your skin after your chemical peel. Redness from light peels typically resolves in a few days, but deeper peels may take a week or two to fully heal.
